Welding apparatus and method for operating same

Abstract

A welding apparatus including a main body having a carrier device and a welding element. The carrier device includes a flow channel having an outlet opening in the direction of the welding element. Provided between the welding element and the carrier device is an insulating device which is made of a thermally insulating material. The insulating device includes a fluid passage that is operatively connected to the outlet opening of the flow channel. The method for operating such a welding apparatus includes the welding element being heated to produce a weld seam, and at least after the welding process, at least one fluid is fed to the fluid passage of the insulating device via the outlet opening of the carrier device and is guided via the opening of the fluid passage to the welding element to cool the welding element at least in some portions.
