Composite robotic components and hybrid manufacturing methods are disclosed. Additively manufactured polymer structures are combined with prefabricated reinforcement members, such as metal plates or skeletons, to form composite robot arm links, joints, and base assemblies. In one embodiment, a robotic arm component includes first and second polymer shell portions and a reinforcement plate disposed between them, with interlocking features inhibiting relative movement and fasteners securing the assembly. In another embodiment, a robot base includes a polymer shell printed to an intermediate state, a reinforcement skeleton inserted into hollow spaces, and printing resumed to capture the skeleton. The resulting composite structures can reduce cost and lead time while improving strength, stiffness, and manufacturability in robotic systems.
