Safety interlock system for industrial machinery

A safety interlock system for industrial machinery, the safety interlock system comprising:

• a prime mover operable to provide rotational driving force;
• a working member driven by the prime mover;
• a guard assembly moveable between a closed position, in which the guard assembly at least partially covers the working member, and an open position that affords access to the working member;
• a mode switch operable to control the prime mover between an ON state and an OFF state;
• and
• an interlock sensor operable to detect movement of at least one of the prime mover and the working member, wherein regardless of whether the prime mover is in the ON state or the OFF state, the interlock sensor prevents movement of the guard assembly away from the closed position when movement of at least one of the prime mover and the working member is detected.

A safety interlock system for industrial machinery, the safety interlock system comprising:

• a prime mover operable to provide rotational driving force;
• a working member driven by the prime mover;
• a guard assembly moveable between a closed position, in which the guard assembly inhibits access to the working member, and an open position that affords access to the working member;
• a latch engageable with the guard assembly and moveable between a latched position that secures the guard assembly in the closed position, and a release position that affords movement of the guard assembly toward the open position;
• and
• an interlock sensor operable to detect movement of at least one of the prime mover and the working member, wherein the interlock sensor prevents the guard assembly from moving to the open position when movement of at least one of the prime mover and the working member is detected.
