Methods for carbon capture and metal recovery and related systems

A CO2 capture and amine regeneration system, comprising:

• a CO2 capture apparatus configured to absorb CO2 and form a CO2-amine amine composition;
• a CO2 mineralization apparatus configured to contain a metal-containing feedstream, the CO2 mineralization apparatus configured to receive the CO2-amine composition, mineralize the CO2, and produce an amine-metal solution comprising the amine and additional metals of the metal-containing feedstream;
• and
• an electrochemical apparatus configured to receive the amine-metal solution comprising the amine and the additional metals and to separate the amine from the additional metals.

A method for CO2 capture and lithium recovery, comprising:

• combining CO2 with a composition comprising methyl cyclohexylamine (MCA) to form a CO2-MCA composition;
• combining the CO2-MCA composition with a lithium-containing solution comprising one or more additional metals to form a solid mass comprising one or more metal carbonates and a liquid filtrate comprising the MCA and the lithium;
• and
• electrochemically separating the MCA from the lithium in the liquid filtrate to form an MCA-containing phase and a lithium-containing phase.
