A weir for a collection trough, a collection trough and a collection trough assembly. A plurality of screening sections are formed in the weir. The weir may be adjustable. The plurality of screening sections each having a plurality of slots sized to perform a screening function in which liquid and solid particles having a size less than a predetermined size can pass through anyone of the plurality of slots while solid particles having a size equal to or greater than the predetermined size cannot pass through any of the plurality of slots of the screening sections. Alternatively, or in addition to the screening sections of the weir, screening sections can be formed in one or both sidewalls of a collection trough. A tapered collection trough with or without screening sections is provided to significantly reduce material costs and/or create an observation area between two closely positioned tapered troughs.
