Abstract

Embodiments of a pickleball paddle include a handle, a head coupled to the handle, and a baseline axis. The head includes a core having a core front surface and a core rear surface, as well as a front faceplate coupled to the core. The front faceplate includes a front faceplate backing layer that is coupled to the core front surface and comprises a first front ply of fiber-reinforced resin having a first front fiber orientation relative to the baseline axis. The front faceplate further includes a front faceplate impact layer disposed opposite the front faceplate backing layer and comprising a second front ply of fiber-reinforced resin having a second front fiber orientation relative to the baseline axis. A front faceplate central layer is disposed between the front faceplate backing layer and the front faceplate impact layer. The front faceplate central layer includes a first front faceplate central sub-layer comprising a first non-Newtonian material.
