Abstract
Example access sheaths are disclosed. An example access sheath includes an elongate shaft having a distal end region, a proximal end region and a wall. The access sheath also includes a hub coupled to the proximal end region of the elongate shaft and a cutter releasably coupled to the hub, wherein the cutter is configured to translate along the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region. Further, translation of the cutter along the elongate shaft cuts the wall of the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region.
Claims20
An access sheath for a medical device, comprising:
- an elongate shaft having a distal end region, a proximal end region and a wall;
- a hub coupled to the proximal end region of the elongate shaft;
- and
- a cutter releasably coupled to the hub, wherein the cutter is configured to translate along the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region;
- wherein translation of the cutter along the elongate shaft cuts the wall of the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region.
An access sheath for a medical device, comprising:
- an elongate shaft having a distal end region, a proximal end region and a wall;
- a hub coupled to the proximal end region of the elongate shaft, wherein the hub includes a first hub member configured to separate from a second hub member;
- a cutter releasably coupled to the hub, wherein the cutter is configured to translate along the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region;
- and
- a seal releasably coupled to the hub, wherein the seal is configured to be removed from a medical device extending through a portion of the seal;
- wherein translation of the cutter along the elongate shaft cuts the wall of the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region.
A method for advancing a medical device into a body lumen, comprising:
- positioning an access sheath adjacent a body lumen, the access sheath comprising:
- an elongate shaft having a distal end region, a proximal end region and a wall;
- a hub coupled to the proximal end region of the elongate shaft;
- and
- a cutter releasably coupled to the hub, the cutter including a blade configured to cut the wall of the elongate shaft;
- advancing the medical device through the access sheath and into the body lumen;
- translating the cutter along the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region, wherein translation of the cutter along the elongate shaft cuts the wall of the elongate shaft from the proximal end region to the distal end region;
- and
- removing the access sheath from the medical device via passing at least a portion of the medical device through the cut portion of the elongate shaft.
