Disclosed is an infusion pump that utilizes force-driven infusion compression elements that are operated by an inverted cam profile. The compression elements, or pump fingers, are driven by force generating components, each exerting a compression force on a respective compression element to cause the compression element to compress the fluid tubing against a support surface. Each cam of the pump is configured to, when rotated, periodically apply a counterforce to a respective compression element to counteract the compression force being applied to the compression element by the force generating component and to lift the respective compression element away from compressing the fluid tubing. As the cams are collectively rotated, the compression forces exerted on the compression elements, counteracted by the periodic lifting of the respective compression elements, create a sinusoidal compression force against the fluid tubing to displace the fluid within the fluid tubing in a downstream direction of flow.
