Abstract
A method for treating periodontal disease, atherosclerosis caused by the periodontal disease, and/or Alzheimer's disease includes administering a composition comprising a peptide having an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 to a subject in need thereof. The composition is effective in suppressing osteoclastogenesis, suppressing Porphyromonas gingivalis colony formation, and suppressing gingipain expression. Further, the composition is safe to a living body and involves less side effects including abnormal response.

- A method for treating a periodontal disease and/or a disorder caused by periodontal disease in a subject who has the periodontal disease or the disorder caused by periodontal disease or is at risk of developing the periodontal disease or the disorder caused by periodontal disease, the method comprising:
- administering an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising a peptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 as an active ingredient, to the subject.

- The method according to claim 11, wherein the periodontal disease is Porphyromonas gingivalis-induced periodontitis, and the disorder caused by periodontal disease comprise atherosclerosis or Alzheimer's disease.

- A kit for preventing or treating a periodontal disease or a disorder caused by periodontal disease, comprising:
- a pharmaceutical composition which comprises a peptide consisting of or comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 as an active ingredient;
- and
- instructions describing a method for treating the periodontal disease or the disorder caused by periodontal disease.

- The kit according to claim 13, wherein the method includes administering the pharmaceutical composition to a subject who has a periodontal disease or a disorder caused by periodontal disease or is at risk of developing the periodontal disease or the disorder caused by periodontal disease.
