Aldoxime antibiotics and related methods

Abstract

A compound which includes an aldoxime molecule having antibiotic properties and that is derived from an amino acid. The compound includes two substituent groups with one substituent group selected from a phenyl group, an indole group, or an imidazole group, and another substituent group selected from a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Methods of synthesizing an aldoxime compound comprise steps of converting an amino acid to an aldehyde compound, and reacting the aldehyde compound with an amine to produce the aldoxime compound. Methods of treating a bacterial infection are further provided and comprise administering an effective amount of an aldoxime compound to a subject in need thereof.
