Abstract
A composition for oral care is provided having a medium chain triglyceride a hydrophobic anti-microbial agent, and a hydrophobic flavoring agent.
Claims1
A hydrophobic, single phase, liquid oral formulation exhibiting enhanced antimicrobial effects, comprising:
- (i) a mixture of triglycerides having 8 carbon atoms or 10 carbon atoms, present in an amount of between about 85% to about 96% by weight of the formulation,
- wherein the mixture of triglycerides is substantially free of triglycerides having 12 carbon atoms or greater;
- (ii) a combination of at least three plant-derived oils that provide antimicrobial effects,
- wherein the first oil is present in an amount ranging from about 0.01-0.15% by weight of the formulation,
- wherein the second oil is present in an amount ranging from about 0.01-0.2% by weight of the formulation,
- wherein the third oil is present in an amount ranging from about 0.01-0.1% by weight of the formulation;
- (iii) a combination of at least three essential oils selected from the group consisting of spearmint oil, peppermint oil, cardamom oil, cinnamon oil, rose oil, jasmine oil, orange oil, lemon oil, and vanilla oil,
- wherein the combination of essential oils is present in an amount of at least 5% by weight of the formulation;
- (iv) a combination of vitamin E, vitamin D3, and vitamin K2, each of the vitamins present in an individual amount less than 0.1% by weight of the formulation;
- (v) fennel oil present in an amount between about 0.01-0.05% by weight of the formulation;
- and
- (vi) a sweetener present in an amount between about 0.01 and 0.09% by weight of the formulation,
- wherein the hydrophobic nature of the formulation allows enhanced penetration of oral biofilm as compared to aqueous mouthwash comprising ethanol, allowing increased contact between the formulation and harmful oral bacteria within the biofilm, and wherein the combination of antimicrobial plant-derived oils exhibits enhanced reduction in both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, thereby providing enhanced antimicrobial effects.
