Abstract
A mobility aid device constructed using internal couplings and capable of functioning as a rollator walker and transfer/transport chair through a convertible seat to backrest design. As a rollator walker, the device features a reverse wrap-around/posterior frame and is capable of detecting falls while providing continual data regarding its use through monitoring components built into the frame and which are visualized on a corresponding mobile application. The data is leveraged for therapeutic purposes through analysis leading to insights about gait patterns, energy levels, and device reliance and access to the data by physical therapists who can engage with the mobile application to assign exercises, monitor patient metrics, and engage with patients remotely.
Claims17
A multi-use mobility aid device configured for switching between a rollator and a transport or transfer chair without tools, the device comprising:
- a support surface movably coupled to a wheeled frame, the support surface positioned within a user space bounded by opposing handles of the wheeled frame, wherein the support surface is movable between a first position in which the support surface provides a horizontal surface in the user space for seating and a second position in which the support surface provides a vertical surface at the rear of the user space for a back rest such that the user space is configured for a user to freely stand therein;
- wherein the frame is positioned on sides and behind the user space such that an area in front of the user space is open, allowing a user to move freely while the frame moves behind and with the user.
A method of improving gait, reducing risk of falling, or improving posture comprising:
- providing a reverse wrap-around wheeled frame defining a user space positioned in front of a wheeled frame and having a movable support surface thereon;
- providing a seating surface in the user space by rotating the movable support surface to a first position;
- standing up and manually rotating the movable support surface to a second position such that the seating surface is removed from the user space and is moved to a posterior position on the frame;
- moving while the frame remains behind the user and moving with the user without inhibiting forward or directional movement of the user or frame and supporting the user at one or more locations including a posterior location to improve posture and/or gait and reduce falling risk.
A multi-use mobility aid device configured for switching between a rollator and a transport or transfer chair without tools, the device comprising:
- a support surface movably coupled to a wheeled frame, the support surface positioned within a user space bounded by opposing handles of the wheeled frame, wherein the support surface is movable between a first position in which the support surface provides a horizontal surface in the user space for seating and a second position in which the support surface provides a vertical surface at the rear of the user space for a back rest such that the user space is configured for a user to freely stand therein;
- and
- a handle or handles coupled to the wheeled frame and configured to enable a second person to push the device when the device is in a transport position.
