Abstract

A disposable pant product has a first waistband bonded to a second waistband at first and second side seams. Each waistband has elastic threads between first and second web layers and bonds bonding the first and second web layers together. An absorbent core is provided between the waistbands. Each side seam has a plurality of discrete bonds which bond the first and second waistbands together. Some of the discrete bonds also anchor the elastic threads in position relative to the web layers. A system for manufacturing the pant product and method of forming same are provided.

Dependent claims

A system for manufacturing a disposable pant product comprising:

a first apparatus configured to form side-to-side first and second assemblies, each assembly comprising a plurality of tensioned elastic threads between first and second web layers, wherein the first apparatus couples together the first and second web layers of each of the first and second assemblies;
an insert placement apparatus configured to place an absorbent insert onto the first web layer of each of the first and second assemblies;
a folding apparatus configured to fold the absorbent insert and to overlap the first and second assemblies such that the first web layers face each other and opposite side edge portions of the first and second assemblies align with each other;
and
a second apparatus configured to form a plurality of bonds that bond the aligned side edge portions to form side seams and secure the elastic threads in position within the side seams.
