Generating realistic dental treatment images using 3d facial and dental models

A system, comprising:

• a first computing device configured to:
• obtain a three-dimensional (3D) head model comprising a depiction of a current head of a patient, wherein the 3D head model comprises a representation of at least a portion of a current dentition of the patient,
• obtain a first 3D dentition model comprising a depiction of the current dentition of the patient and a second 3D dentition model comprising a depiction of an altered dentition of the patient, and
• generate a video of a post-treatment head of the patient that includes the altered dentition of the patient based on the first 3D dentition model, the second 3D dentition model, and the 3D head model.

A method, comprising:

• obtaining a three-dimensional (3D) head model comprising a depiction of a current head of a patient, wherein the 3D head model comprises a representation of at least a portion of a current dentition of the patient;
• obtaining a first 3D dentition model comprising a depiction of the current dentition of the patient and a second 3D dentition model comprising a depiction of an altered dentition of the patient;
• registering the first 3D dentition model to the 3D head model;
• generating one or more first images of the 3D head model in one or more poses;
• generating one or more second images of the second 3D dentition model corresponding to the one or more poses based at least in part on a result of the registering;
• and
• generating modified versions of the one or more first images by replacing the current dentition of the patient with the altered dentition of the patient from the one or more second images, wherein the modified versions of the one or more first images are photorealistic.
