Abstract
A system for delivering a biopsy marker includes a biopsy device having an inner lumen. The inner lumen is configured to provide continuous access to a biopsy site to both collect a tissue sample from the biopsy site and to mark the biopsy site. The system also includes a biopsy marker configured to permit identification of the biopsy site. The biopsy marker comprises a hypoechoic region and a hyperechoic region. The hypoechoic region is distinguishable from the hyperechoic region under ultrasound imaging of the biopsy marker. The system additionally comprises a push rod configured to convey the biopsy marker through the inner lumen of the biopsy device and into the biopsy site.
Claims21
A system for delivering a biopsy marker to a biopsy site, the system comprising:
- a biopsy device comprising an inner lumen, the inner lumen being configured to provide continuous access to a biopsy site to both collect a tissue sample from the biopsy site and to mark the biopsy site;
- a biopsy marker configured to permit identification of the biopsy site, the biopsy marker comprising a hypoechoic region and a hyperechoic region, the hypoechoic region being distinguishable from the hyperechoic region under ultrasound imaging of the biopsy marker;
- and
- a push rod configured to convey the biopsy marker through the inner lumen of the biopsy device and into the biopsy site.
A biopsy marker for delivery to a biopsy site, the marker comprising:
- a hyperechoic region forming an outer portion of the biopsy marker and defining an interior region, the hyperechoic region having a collapsed shape configured to be advanced through an inner lumen of a biopsy device, and wherein, upon delivery to the biopsy site, the hyperechoic region is configured to transition from the collapsed shape to an expanded shape, the expanded shape being different than the collapsed shape;
- and
- a hypoechoic region contained within the interior region of the hyperechoic region, the hypoechoic region being configured to transition between a pre-deployment configuration and a post-deployment configuration,
- wherein, in the post-deployment configuration, the hypoechoic region transitions to a final, fully expanded size, and
- wherein, when the hypoechoic region transitions to the final, fully expanded size, the hypoechoic region fills less than an entirety of the interior region of the expanded shape of the hyperechoic region.
