Abstract
Disclosed is a system to display a representation of an instrument. The representation of the instrument may be displayed relative to a representation of a patient. The representation of the patient may be fit in real-time to represent poses or one or more portions of the patient relative to one another and/or to the instrument.
Claims15
A system to track a device relative to a subject, comprising:
- a display device configured to display an image that includes a representation of one or more internal portions of the subject;
- an instrument configured to be moved relative to the heart of the subject, wherein the instrument includes a distal portion configured to be percutaneously positioned in the subject and a handle configured to move the distal portion;
- a tracking system;
- a tracking device configured to be tracked by the tracking system, wherein the tracking device is associated with the instrument;
- a processing unit configured to execute instructions to:
- generate the image that includes the representation of the one or more internal portions of the subject;
- register the image to the subject;
- and
- generate a graphical representation of a pose of the instrument relative to the generated image;
- and
- a display device configured to display both the image and the graphical representation;
- wherein the display is operable to illustrate at least a distance of the instrument relative to the heart of the subject based at least on the displayed image and the graphical representation.

A method to track a device relative to a heart of a subject, comprising:
- providing an instrument including (1) a distal portion configured to be percutaneously positioned and moved relative to the subject and (2) a handle configured to be manipulated to move the distal portion;
- tracking a tracking device associated with the provided instrument;
- operating a processing unit to execute instructions to:
- generate an image to represent at least a portion of the heart of the subject;
- register the image to the subject;
- determine a pose of the provided instrument based on the tracking of the tracking device;
- and
- generate a graphical representation of the instrument relative to the generated image based on the determined pose of the provided instrument;
- and
- displaying with a display device both the generated image and the graphical representation;
- wherein the display is operable to illustrate at least a distance of the instrument relative to the heart of the subject based at least on the displayed image and the graphical representation.

A system to track a device relative to a heart of a subject, comprising:
- a display device configured to display an image that includes a representation of the subject;
- an instrument configured to be moved relative to the heart of the subject, wherein the instrument includes (1) a distal portion configured to be positioned transcutaneous between a sternum and the heart of the subject and (2) a handle configured to move the distal portion;
- a lead configured to be positioned within the subject;
- a tracking system;
- an instrument tracking device configured to be tracked by the tracking system, wherein the instrument tracking device is associated with the instrument and tracked by the tracking system to determine an instrument pose;
- a lead tracking portion configured to be tracked by the tracking system, wherein the lead tracking device is associated with the lead and tracked by the tracking system to determine a lead pose;
- a processing unit configured to execute instructions to:
- generate the image that represents at least a portion of the heart of the subject based at least on a determined pose of the subject;
- register the image to the subject;
- and
- generate a graphical representation of the determined pose of at least one of the instrument or the lead relative to the generated image;
- and
- a display device configured to display both the image and the graphical representation to illustrate the determined pose in real time relative to the heart of the subject, wherein the real time display illustrates at least a distance of the instrument relative to the heart of the subject based at least on the displayed image and the graphical representation.
