Targeting guide

A bone fragment alignment assembly for use in minimally invasive osteotomy, the assembly comprising:

• a first portion including a substantially L-shaped body having a threaded bore at one end and guide pins protruding from the body, the first portion further including a hook-like anchor having a tip configured to be inserted into an intramedullary canal of a proximal bone fragment;
• a second portion including a substantially U-shaped body having a first side and an opposing second side, each of the first side and the second side including a curved slot that receives a respective one of the guide pins to provide pivotal engagement between the first portion and the second portion, the second portion further including a skin-interfacing portion at one end;
• and
• an actuator including a threaded shaft that threadedly engages the threaded bore of the first portion and a knob at an opposing end, the actuator extending through an opening in the second portion between the first side and the second side, the knob being wider than the opening, such that rotation of the knob changes a relative orientation of the first portion with respect to the second portion by drawing the guide pins through the curved slots toward the knob.

A surgical system for correcting hallux valgus deformity via minimally invasive osteotomy, the system comprising:

• an assembly including (i) a first portion having a hook-like anchor configured to be inserted into an intramedullary canal of a proximal fragment of a metatarsal, and (ii) a second portion pivotally engaged to the first portion and including a skin-interfacing portion that contacts and laterally translates a capital fragment of the metatarsal when the first portion and the second portion are pivoted relative to each other;
• a trajectory cartridge detachably coupled to the assembly, the trajectory cartridge including at least one sleeve hole aligned to direct a fixation wire through the proximal fragment and into the capital fragment;
• a tissue protector sleeve including a hollow cylindrical sleeve and a handle, the tissue protector sleeve sized to be inserted over the fixation wire and positioned against a patient's skin at an insertion site;
• and
• a corner removal tool including a handle, a shaft extending perpendicular to the handle, and a plurality of alignment holes, at least one of the alignment holes sized to fit over the fixation wire or a screwdriver, and at least one guide hole positioned to direct a cutting tool for removal of a portion of the proximal fragment.
