Provided are an ultrasound diagnostic apparatus and a method of controlling an ultrasound diagnostic apparatus that can easily obtain a highly reliable left ventricular outflow tract diameter. An ultrasound diagnostic apparatus includes: a candidate value acquisition unit that acquires an outflow tract diameter candidate value in a left ventricular outflow tract based on a first ultrasound image in which a predetermined first cross section of a heart of a subject is captured; a blood flow measurement value acquisition unit that acquires a blood flow measurement value related to a blood flow rate based on a second ultrasound image in which a second cross section of the heart of the subject different from the first cross section is captured; a virtual cardiac output calculation unit that calculates a virtual cardiac output based on the outflow tract diameter candidate value and the blood flow measurement value; a reliability determination unit that determines reliability of the outflow tract diameter candidate value based on the virtual cardiac output; and a notification unit that notifies a user of the determined reliability.
