A device having a physiological sensing system configured to analyze a physiological signal using frequency-domain signal processing and embedded on-device screening logic to identify a characteristic associated with a presence or an absence of a venous blood flow abnormality. The physiological sensing system has a biosignal sensor configured to acquire an optical physiological signal from a venous region of a lower limb and a microcontroller configured to execute an algorithm; wherein the biosignal sensor is in signal communication with the microcontroller and the microcontroller uses the algorithm for identification of a feature associated with the presence or the absence of the venous blood flow abnormality; and wherein the device is wearable and non-invasive. The physiological sensing system performs signal acquisition and screening analysis autonomously on the device. Deep vein thrombosis is an example of a venous blood flow abnormality that can be detected by the device.
