An apparatus for measuring blood pressure can be positioned on a subject in a position that is proximate to blood vessels. A plurality of LEDs direct a plurality of wavelengths of light from the apparatus toward the identified blood vessels. A plurality of photodetectors generate a plurality of respective photoplethysmography (PPG) waveforms in response to each of the wavelengths of light. Software implemented by a computer develop a feature vector of wavelength data and PPG data and extracts feature values from the feature vector. The software calculates feature ratios of selected pairs of feature values that each include a corresponding PPG data value for a respective wavelength data value. Using the feature ratios as inputs in a machine learning model predicts systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), or mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) with the feature ratios.
