Abstract
The present disclosure in general relates to body supporting systems and devices such as mattress, chair, car seat, etc., and their operating methods, and in particular to body supporting systems and devices with adjustable firmness, and related operating methods and firmness adjusting devices.
Claims30
An adjusting device for adjusting a firmness or height or sag of at least an area of a body support device, comprising:
- a movable piece arranged corresponding to the at least an area of the body support device;
- and
- an actuator configured to drive the movable piece based on sensor sense or compression/depression on the at least an area of the body support device to compress or decompress depth of a portion of the body support device underneath the at least an area, thereby adjusting the firmness or height or sag of the at least an area of the body support device.
A method for determining or estimating a sag position of a location of a body support device, wherein a connecting element is arranged with one end being fixed to the location and the other end being attached to an actuator, and wherein the connecting element is in a straight but zero tension state before a force is applied to the location, the method comprising:
- activating the actuator to pull the connecting element, after the force is applied to the location, and
- detecting the sag position under the force but without tension on the connecting element, when an increase of current is detected on the actuator.
A method for determining or estimating a pulled length of a connecting element that is arranged with one end being fixed to a location of a body support device and the other end being attached to an actuator, the method comprising:
- activating the actuator to pull the connecting element, and
- determining or estimating the pulled length of the connecting element by counting number of turns of the actuator or number of spikes in a signal from the actuator.
A method for adjusting firmness or height or sag of a body support device, comprising:
- applying a current to an actuator to adjust the body support device to a desired firmness or compression/decompression;
- and
- reducing the current to a reduced level to keep the desired firmness or compression/decompression of the body support device.
An apparatus for determining or estimating a sag position of a location of a body support device, comprising:
- a connecting element arranged with one end being fixed to the location and the other end being attached to an actuator, wherein the connecting element is in a straight but zero tension state before a force is applied to the location;
- the actuator configured to be activated to pull the connecting element after the force is applied to the location;
- and
- a detection unit for detecting the sag position under the force but without tension on the connecting element when an increase of current is detected on the actuator.
An apparatus for determining or estimating a pulled length of a connecting element, comprising:
- an actuator configured to be activated to pull the connecting element, the connecting element being arranged with one end being fixed to a location of a body support device and the other end being attached to the actuator;
- and
- a determination unit for determining or estimating the pulled length of the connecting element by counting number of turns of the actuator or number of spikes in a signal from the actuator.
