A powered mechanism for achieving headrest rotation and extension within a powered furniture piece wherein the mechanism comprises a base assembly, a linkage assembly, and a driving assembly. The linkage assembly and the driving assembly are mounted upon the base assembly, and headrest mounting brackets are mounted upon the linkage assembly. When the driving assembly is actuated, the linkage assembly moves the headrest mounting brackets in both a rotationally forward and upwardly extended manner. In this manner, not only will the fabric, covering the headrest and the backrest, effectively be prevented from wrinkling, but in addition, the lower edge portion of the headrest will also be prevented from engaging the upper edge portion of the backrest so as to prevent any outward bulging of the backrest which may prove to be uncomfortable to the user of the powered chair.
