Abstract
An aqueous extract of the algae species Laminaria ochroleuca, wherein the extract includes indoleacetic acid at a concentration of at least 10 ppm. The extract can be used as plant biostimulant, and in a plant biostimulant composition. A method for improving plant growth and productivity can be achieved by applying the extract or the plant biostimulant composition.
Claims21
An aqueous extract of the algae species Laminaria ochroleuca, wherein the extract comprises indoleacetic acid at a concentration of at least 10 ppm, and wherein the extract is obtainable by a process comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing algae material from Laminaria ochroleuca having a moisture content of at least 10% w/w;
- (b) contacting the algae material with a partially water-miscible organic solvent at a temperature equal to or lower than 40° C.;
- (c) separating the partially water-miscible organic solvent contacted with the algae material in step (b);
- (d) evaporating the partially water-miscible organic solvent separated in step (c), thereby obtaining the aqueous extract.
A process for the production of an aqueous extract of the algae species Laminaria ochroleuca, the process comprising the steps:
- (a) providing algae material from Laminaria ochroleuca having a moisture content of at least 10% w/w;
- (b) contacting the algae material with a partially water-miscible organic solvent at a temperature equal to or lower than 40° C.;
- (c) separating the partially water-miscible organic solvent contacted with the algae material in step (b);
- (d) evaporating the partially water-miscible organic solvent separated in step (c), thereby obtaining the aqueous extract.
