A method of fabricating a film, comprising:
- spreading a second liquid on a surface;
- spreading a first liquid on the second liquid, wherein the first liquid has a lower density than the second liquid, wherein the first liquid has a bottom area and a top area, wherein the top area of the second liquid boarders a bottom area of the first liquid, wherein a top area of the first liquid boarders a gaseous environment, and wherein an equilibrium solubility of the second liquid in the first liquid and an equilibrium solubility of the first liquid in the second liquid is less than or equal to about 1 percent weight;
- dispensing a first solution onto the first liquid to form a membrane, wherein an equilibrium solubility of the first solution in the first liquid and an equilibrium solubility of the first liquid in the first solution is less than or equal to about 1 percent weight, and wherein an equilibrium solubility of the first solution in the second liquid and an equilibrium solubility of the second liquid in the first solution is less than or equal to about 1 percent weight;
- and
- curing the membrane to form the film.
A film comprising one or more polymers, wherein the film comprises a thickness of about 10 micrometers to about 200 micrometers, a statistical thickness variation across an area greater than or equal to about 1 square millimeter of the film is no more than about 10% of an average thickness of the film, an average surface roughness of the film is about 10 nanometers to about 1 micrometer, or a combination of any thereof.
