Abstract
Audience monitoring systems and related methods are described herein. An example audience monitoring system includes a beacon to be disposed proximate a media presentation device. The beacon is to transmit a ping signal. The system also includes a portable metering device to be carried by a person. The portable metering device includes a microphone to receive an audio signal and a processor to determine a distance value indicative of a distance between the portable metering device and the beacon based on the ping signal.
Claims20
A portable metering device comprising:
- a motion sensor;
- a wireless transceiver;
- and
- a processor, wherein the processor is configured to perform operations comprising:
- detecting, via the motion sensor, movement of the portable metering device after a threshold duration of no movement;
- and
- in response to detecting the movement, causing the wireless transceiver to transmit a request ping signal to update distance information between the portable metering device and one or more beacons associated with one or more media presentation devices.
A non-transitory machine readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a portable metering device, cause performance of operations comprising:
- detecting, via a motion sensor of the portable metering device, movement of the portable metering device after a threshold duration of no movement;
- and
- in response to detecting the movement, causing a wireless transceiver of the portable metering device to transmit a request ping signal to update distance information between the portable metering device and one or more beacons associated with one or more media presentation devices.
A method comprising:
- detecting, via a motion sensor of a portable metering device, movement of the portable metering device after a threshold duration of no movement;
- and
- in response to detecting the movement, transmitting, via a wireless transceiver of the portable metering device, a request ping signal to update distance information between the portable metering device and one or more beacons associated with one or more media presentation devices.
