Multisource media delivery systems and methods

A method for delivering media content to one or more clients over a distributed system, the method comprising:

• at a first device:
• receiving a first coded variant that includes symbols that represent a first media asset, wherein the symbols include (i) one or more original symbols of a plurality of original symbols that represent the first media asset, (ii) one or more network-coded symbols, wherein the one or more network-coded symbols are generated by another device from the plurality of original symbols and/or from other network-coded symbols previously generated from the plurality of original symbols, or (iii) both the one or more original symbols of the plurality of original symbols and the one or more network-coded symbols;
• generating a first recoded variant based on the first coded variant, wherein the first recoded variant includes one or more first recoded symbols based on one or more of the symbols of the first coded variant;
• and
• distributing the first coded variant, the first recoded variant, or both the first coded variant and the first recoded variant to a second device for storage by the second device, for outputting of the first media asset by the second device, or for both storage by the second device and outputting of the first media asset by the second device.
