Systems and methods for determining types of references in content and mapping to particular applications

A method comprising:

• providing a content item for a first user device associated with a profile;
• identifying, using control circuitry, an on-screen activity being performed within a segment of the content item with respect to an entity;
• identifying, using the control circuitry, a presence of a second user device associated with the profile that is physically in a vicinity to but is distinct from the first user device;
• identifying, using the control circuitry, at least one application installed on the second user device, wherein the at least one application can execute a particular action at the second user device corresponding to the identified on-screen activity provided at the first user device with respect to the entity;
• and
• based at least in part on identifying the presence of the second user device physically in the vicinity but distinct from the first user device, causing a command to be transmitted to the second user device, the command instructing the at least one application on the second user device to perform the particular action.

A system comprising:

• memory;
• control circuitry configured to:
• provide a content item for a first user device associated with a profile stored in the memory;
• identify an on-screen activity being performed within a segment of the content item with respect to an entity;
• identify a presence of a second user device associated with the profile that is physically in a vicinity to but is distinct from the first user device;
• identify at least one application installed on the second user device, wherein the at least one application can execute a particular action at the second user device corresponding to the identified on-screen activity provided at the first user device with respect to the entity;
• and
• based at least in part on identifying the presence of the second user device physically in the vicinity but distinct from the first user device, cause a command to be transmitted to the second user device, the command instructing the at least one application on the second user device to perform the particular action.
