Abstract
A method of controlling the operating mode of a remote device based upon a local user preference setting includes determining a user privacy setting by a user at a local device and storing the user privacy setting. The user privacy setting is conveyed to the remote device and the operational mode of the remote device is modified based upon the transmitted user privacy preference setting. The operational mode of the remote device is returned to the normal operational mode upon meeting a predetermined condition.
Claims17
A method of controlling an operating mode of an informed device, the method comprising:
- storing, by a user device, a user privacy preference associated with a user and an expiration condition for the user privacy preference;
- conveying, by the user device, the user privacy preference to the informed device;
- causing the informed device to operate in a privacy mode based on the user privacy preference until the user privacy preference expires according to the expiration condition;
- and
- causing the informed device to return from the privacy mode to a regular operating mode upon expiration of the user privacy preference, the regular operating mode comprising a mode in which the informed device is permitted to collect personal information.
A system for controlling operation of an informed device, the system comprising:
- a user device configured to store a user privacy preference associated with a user and an expiration condition for the user privacy preference and to convey the user privacy preference;
- and
- the informed device configured to receive the user privacy preference from the user device, operate in a privacy mode based on the user privacy preference until the user privacy preference expires according to the expiration condition, and return from the privacy mode to a regular operating mode upon expiration of the user privacy preference, the regular operating mode comprising a mode in which the informed device is permitted to collect personal information.
