Adjustment method on inter prediction with linear prediction model

A method of video encoding, comprising:

• determining an adjustment factor to be applied to a linear formula, a current block in a current picture being predicted with a formula-based inter prediction with the adjustment factor, the formula-based inter prediction generating a prediction sample of the current block based on the linear formula applied to one or more reconstructed samples of a reference block in a reference picture;
• applying the adjustment factor on an initial slope parameter to determine an adjusted slope parameter;
• calculating an adjusted offset parameter according to (i) the adjusted slope parameter and (ii) a first weighted average of a plurality of first samples in a reference template of the reference block;
• generating, based at least on the adjusted slope parameter and the adjusted offset parameter, an adjusted linear formula of the linear formula;
• and
• encoding, in a bitstream, the current block according to the adjusted linear formula.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform a method of encoding a bitstream comprising:

• determining an adjustment factor to be applied to a linear formula, a current block in a current picture being predicted with a formula-based inter prediction with the adjustment factor, the formula-based inter prediction generating a prediction sample of the current block based on the linear formula applied to one or more reconstructed samples of a reference block in a reference picture that are input to the linear formula;
• applying the adjustment factor on an initial slope parameter to determine an adjusted slope parameter;
• calculating an adjusted offset parameter according to (i) the adjusted slope parameter and (ii) a first weighted average of a plurality of first samples in a reference template of the reference block;
• generating, based at least on the adjusted slope parameter and the adjusted offset parameter, an adjusted linear formula of the linear formula;
• encoding, in the bitstream, the current block according to the adjusted linear formula;
• and
• transmitting the bitstream.
