Projecting images on a spherical venue

A method for projecting an image onto a three-dimensional media plane of a venue, the method comprising:

• assigning, among a plurality of image processing servers communicatively coupled to one another, each image processing server to a corresponding two-dimensional slice of the image from among a plurality of two-dimensional slices of the image and to a corresponding three-dimensional slice of the media plane from among a plurality of three-dimensional slices of the media plane;
• at each image processing server from among the plurality of image processing servers:
• projecting three-dimensional coordinates of pixels of its corresponding three-dimensional slice of the media plane onto two-dimensional coordinates of its corresponding two-dimensional slice of the image;
• interpolating color information for the pixels of its corresponding three-dimensional slice based on pixel data derived from its corresponding two-dimensional slice of the image;
• and
• providing the color information corresponding to its corresponding three-dimensional slice to the venue for projection;
• and
• collectively projecting, by the plurality of image processing servers, the image onto the three-dimensional media plane by concurrently providing interpolated color information for their corresponding three-dimensional slices such that the projected three-dimensional slices together form the image on the media plane.

A venue for displaying an image on a three-dimensional media plane, the venue comprising:

• a three-dimensional media plane including a plurality of addressable pixels arranged across the venue, the three-dimensional media plane being logically segmented into a plurality of three-dimensional slices;
• and
• an image projection system comprising a plurality of image processing servers communicatively coupled to the venue, wherein each image processing server from among the plurality of image processing servers is assigned to a corresponding three-dimensional slice of the media plane and to a corresponding two-dimensional slice of an image to be displayed,
• wherein the plurality of image processing servers are configured to:
• project three-dimensional coordinates of pixels of their respective three-dimensional slices onto two-dimensional coordinates of the corresponding two-dimensional slices of the image;
• interpolate color information for the pixels of their corresponding three-dimensional slices based on pixel data derived from the corresponding two-dimensional slices of the image;
• and
• provide their color information to the venue,
• wherein the three-dimensional media plane is configured, in cooperation with the image projection system, to display the image by concurrently projecting the plurality of three-dimensional slices together to form the image.
