Processing haptic information

A method for processing haptic information, the method comprising:

• obtaining a piece of text-based interchange format data indicating haptic information;
• encoding, by processing circuitry, the piece of text-based interchange format data into a binary bit stream corresponding to a haptic experience dataset incorporating the haptic information, the bit stream including one or more data units, and each one of the one or more data units including one or more data packets and a syntax structure that includes (i) a data unit type indicator indicating a type of the data unit and (ii) a unit-level timestamp indicating an offset time of the data unit from a start time of the haptic experience dataset;
• obtaining, by the processing circuitry, a media file encapsulating the haptic experience dataset;
• and
• transmitting the media file to a processing device that is configured to decode the media file into the piece of text-based interchange format data and drive one or more haptic devices based on the piece of text-based interchange format data.

A haptic information processing device, comprising:

• processing circuitry configured to:
• obtain a media file that includes a haptic experience dataset;
• obtain, from the media file, a bit stream corresponding to the haptic experience dataset, the bit stream including one or more data units, and each one of the one or more data units including one or more data packets and a syntax structure that includes (i) a data unit type indicator indicating a type of the data unit and (ii) a unit-level timestamp indicating an offset time of the data unit from a start time of the haptic experience dataset;
• decode the bit stream into a piece of text-based interchange format data indicating haptic information of the haptic experience dataset;
• and
• drive one or more haptic devices based on the piece of text-based interchange format data.
