Abstract
A network management platform can include a configuration management database (CMDB), an IP address management (IPAM) network device, a network security platform, and a software-defined wide area network (SDWAN). The CMDB can be configured to store configuration data of endpoint devices. The IPAM can allocate IP addresses within the network. The network security platform can be configured to enforce policies and/or manage endpoint access. The SDWAN can be utilized to configure and/or control the endpoint devices.
Claims20
An automated network management platform, comprising:
- a configuration management database storing configuration state data for a plurality of network-connected devices;
- a network control system configured to apply configuration or routing behavior to the plurality of network-connected devices;
- a security enforcement system configured to authenticate devices and control network access according to security policies;
- an event-driven orchestration system communicatively coupling the configuration management database with the network control system and the security enforcement system, the orchestration system being configured to detect changes to stored configuration state data and to initiate provisioning, configuration, or management actions based on the detected changes;
- a user interface configured to receive user input defining configuration attributes for the plurality of network-connected devices;
- and
- wherein updates to the configuration attributes stored in the configuration management database cause the event-driven orchestration system to automatically initiate corresponding network control or security actions applied to the network-connected devices.
A method for controlling network infrastructure, comprising:
- storing configuration data for one or more network devices in a configuration management database that serves as an authoritative configuration repository;
- detecting a change to the stored configuration data;
- generating an event corresponding to the detected change and publishing the event to an event messaging system;
- processing the event by one or more orchestration services subscribed to the event messaging system;
- and
- automatically applying one or more configuration, provisioning, or access-control actions to at least one network device based on the event,
- wherein the configuration management database defines configuration data consumed by both provisioning operations and ongoing network management operations.
