Abstract
A first node may broadcast messages on a controller area network (CAN) bus. A second node may listen for the messages on the CAN bus. The first node may include spacing at a start of the messages and set a length of the spacing for each of the messages, respectively, according to a predetermined sequence of lengths. The second node may an identify of the node based on the length of the spacing at the start of each of the messages using the predetermined sequence of lengths.
Claims16
A system, comprising:
- a first node configured to broadcast messages on a CAN bus;
- a second node configured to listen for the messages on the CAN bus
- wherein the first node is configured to include spacing at a start of each of the messages and set a length of the spacing for each of the messages, respectively, according to a predetermined sequence of lengths,
- wherein the second node verifies the identify of the node based on the length of the spacing at the start of each of the messages using the predetermined sequence of lengths.
An electronic control unit, comprising
- a processor, the processor configured to:
- communicate on a CAN bus that is shared with an officer node;
- generate a predetermined sequence of lengths that is also shared with the officer node;
- and
- for each message transmitted on the CAN bus, the processor is configured to:
- identify a next length in the sequence of lengths;
- and
- delay sending the message until a length of bits is present on the bus equal to the next length.
An electronic control unit, comprising
- a processor, the processor configured to:
- communicate on a CAN bus that is shared with a second electronic control unit;
- generate a predetermined sequence of lengths that is also accessible by the second electronic control unit;
- and
- monitor the CAN bus for messages;
- in response to identifying a message being transmitted on the BUS:
- identify a next length in the sequence of lengths;
- and
- determine a length of bits between the end of the previous message and the identified message is not equal to the next length;
- and
- prevent the message from being sent on the CAN bus in response to the length of bits not being equal to the next length.
