A system for transmitting power through a terrestrial body may include a transmitter electrode structure configured to be positioned within the terrestrial body. The transmitter electrode structure may include a first electrode and a second electrode spaced a distance from the first electrode. The system may include a power source electrically connected to the transmitter electrode structure and configured to drive an alternating current through the transmitter electrode structure and into the terrestrial body. The transmitter electrode structure may be configured such that an inductive reactance of a current path away from the transmitter electrode structure exceeds a contact resistance of the transmitter electrode structure, and the alternating current may flow through the current path to establish a reactive energy storage condition in the terrestrial body. The system may further include a receiver electrode structure configured to couple to the reactive energy storage condition and deliver power to a load.
