A method for controlling at least one linear motor for a transport system, wherein the transport system includes a transport rotor which, on at least one side, has a plurality of magnets, where at least two magnets have different magnetic polarity, and which has a return element, the control device controls the at least one linear motor such that a longitudinal force is exerted on the transport rotor in a longitudinal direction of the linear motor to effect a linear movement of the transport rotor in the longitudinal direction and controls the at least one linear motor such that a transverse force that is perpendicular to the longitudinal force is exerted on the transport rotor so as to effect a transverse movement of the transport rotor toward the coils or away from the coils, and a field-varying current is zero when the transverse movement of the transport rotor is effected.
