Abstract
Wirelessly powered receiver system and sensors are described. In an embodiment, the power receiver system, includes an inductive coil that receives wireless power from an external transmitter, a capacitor bank that optimizes power transfer to an energy harvesting device, and a power-receiving frontend RF-DC rectifier with a periodically enabled closed feedback loop that adapts settings of the capacitor bank in real-time to adapt to changes on the inductive coil to maximize power transfer efficiency.
Claims24
An implantable medical device comprising:
- an inductive coil having terminals and a resonance frequency, the inductive coil configured to receive power from an external transmitter,
- a power-receiving RF-DC rectifier coupled to the terminals of the inductive coil;
- and
- a periodically enabled closed feedback loop comprising a resonance compensator configured to adapt a capacitance between terminals of the inductive coil to optimize power transfer to a load coupled to an output of the power-receiving RF-DC rectifier.
A method of optimizing power transfer to an implanted medical device having an inductive coil, a power-receiving RF-DC rectifier coupled to terminals of the inductive coil, and an energy harvesting device coupled to an output of the power-receiving RF-DC rectifier, the method comprising:
- receiving power through the inductive coil;
- and
- periodically adapting a capacitance between terminals of the inductive coil to optimize power transfer to the energy harvesting device.
A system comprising:
- an external controller;
- and
- at least one wirelessly powered implantable medical device comprising:
- an inductive coil having terminals and a resonance frequency, the inductive coil configured to receive power from the external controller;
- a power-receiving RF-DC rectifier coupled to the terminals of the inductive coil;
- and
- a periodically enabled closed feedback loop comprising a resonance compensator configured to adapt a capacitance between terminals of the inductive coil to optimize power transfer to a load coupled to an output of the power-receiving RF-DC rectifier.
