Abstract
A circuit interrupting device including a vacuum interrupter, a capacitor, and an insulating housing. The vacuum interrupter includes a vacuum bottle and first and second contacts disposed within the vacuum bottle. The second contact is movable relative to the first contact between a closed position and an open position. The capacitor is electrically connected in parallel with the vacuum interrupter and wound around an outer surface of the vacuum bottle. The insulating housing encloses the capacitor and the vacuum interrupter.
Claims20
A circuit interrupting device comprising:
- a cylindrical capacitor electrically connected electrically in parallel with an electronic component of the circuit interrupting device and wrapped around an outer surface of the electronic component, wherein the cylindrical capacitor includes a first cylindrical capacitor plate and a second cylindrical capacitor plate, the second cylindrical capacitor plate being radially outside the first cylindrical capacitor plate, wherein the cylindrical capacitor further includes a first dielectric material layer that is disposed between the outer surface of the electronic component and the first cylindrical capacitor plate.
A recloser comprising:
- a terminal configured to electrically connect the recloser to a power line included in a power distribution network;
- an electronic component;
- a cylindrical capacitor electrically connected in parallel with the electronic component, wherein the cylindrical capacitor includes a first cylindrical capacitor plate and a second cylindrical capacitor plate, the second cylindrical capacitor plate being radially outside the first cylindrical capacitor plate, wherein the cylindrical capacitor further includes a first dielectric material layer that is disposed between the outer surface of the electronic component and the first cylindrical capacitor plate.
A method of manufacturing a circuit interrupting device, the method comprising:
- applying a first dielectric material layer to an outer surface of an electronic component of the circuit interrupting device;
- wrapping a first capacitor plate around the electronic component. wherein the first dielectric material layer is disposed between the electronic component and the first capacitor plate;
- and
- wrapping a second capacitor plate around the electronic component.
