Atom trap devices including structured electrode layers

A device for controlling trapped atoms, the device comprising:

• a structured electrode layer comprising a plurality of electrodes of an atom trap configured to trap atoms in a zone above the structured electrode layer, wherein the plurality of electrodes comprises:
• a first RF electrode and a second RF electrode extending in a first direction, wherein the first RF electrode and the second RF electrode are arranged on different sides of an axis extending in the first direction;
• and
• a plurality of DC electrodes arranged between the first RF electrode and the second RF electrode, wherein the plurality of DC electrodes comprises:
• a first DC electrode comprising a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion and the second portion are arranged symmetrically to each other with respect to the axis, wherein the axis extends between the first portion and the second portion;
• and
• a second DC electrode arranged symmetrically to the axis, wherein the axis extends through the second DC electrode.
