Abstract
According to one embodiment, a memory system includes a semiconductor memory device and a control device. The control device instructs write operations and erase operations. In a write operation, write loops involving supplying a program voltage to a conductive layer are performed. The program voltage is increased for each subsequent write loop in the write operation. In an erase operation, a plurality of erase loops are performed, each including supplying an erase voltage then an erase verification operation. The semiconductor memory device outputs data corresponding to an erase verification operation result to the control device. Whenever executing a write operation, the control device transmits data indicating an initial program voltage to be used in the write operation based on the erase verification operation result.
