A fretting saddling member with saddling interfaces for two consecutive strings is coupled to a body of a stringed musical instrument. A saddling interface contacts a string and directs the string above a sequence of string contactable fretting crown segments on the fretting saddling member, between the saddling interface and a neck of the instrument. The vertical position and the longitudinal position of the fretting saddling member are adjustable for playability. A player uses the wrist of the picking hand to depress the string between the saddling interface and a fretting crown segment until the string contacts the fretting crown segment. A length of the string extending from the fretting crown segment to a nut on the neck may then be plucked with the thumb of the picking hand.
