Disclosed are systems and methods for improved ultrasound imaging and analysis of ultrasound data. A system includes an ultrasound transducer configured to iteratively transmit an ultrasound signal into a specimen at a plurality of frequencies, detect backscattered ultrasound at each of the plurality of frequencies, and generate radiofrequency (RF) data for each of the plurality of frequencies. A postprocessing unit receives at least a portion of the RF data and transforms the data into a raw image comprising first pixels, each comprising an intensity value. For each pixel of the raw image, an attenuation coefficient is determined. Attenuation-corrected RF data is generated using the determined attenuation coefficients. The attenuation-corrected RF data is transformed into an attenuation-corrected ultrasound image, which is provided for display on a display device.
