Polling-Based Remote Service Management

One or more non-transitory computer readable media comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more hardware processors, cause performance of operations comprising:

• generating, by a device management service, a first action record specifying:
• (a) a target device, and (b) a first test to be executed on the target device, wherein the device management service runs on a set of one or more remote devices that are remote from the target device;
• subsequent to generating the first action record:
• receiving, by the device management service, a first polling request associated with the target device;
• and
• responsive to receiving the first polling request, transmitting a first polling response indicating (a) the target device, and (b) the first test to be executed on the target device, based on the first action record,
• wherein the first polling response causes execution of the first test on the target device.

A system comprising:

• at least one device including a hardware processor;
• the system being configured to perform operations comprising:
• generating, by a device management service, a first action record specifying:
• (a) a target device, and (b) a first test to be executed on the target device, wherein the device management service runs on a set of one or more remote devices that are remote from the target device;
• subsequent to generating the first action record:
• receiving, by the device management service, a first polling request associated with the target device;
• and
• responsive to receiving the first polling request, transmitting a first polling response indicating (a) the target device, and (b) the first test to be executed on the target device, based on the first action record,
• wherein the first polling response causes execution of the first test on the target device.

A method comprising:

• determining a polling schedule for generating a polling transmission to a device management service;
• and
• based on the polling schedule, generating a first polling transmission to the device management service;
• based on the first polling transmission, receiving a first set of commands from the device management service to initiate a first set of operations on a client device;
• identifying a first set of software code in the client device for initiating the first set of operations;
• and
• executing, by the client device, the first set of code to initiate the first set of operations.
