A tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium, comprising computer-readable instructions that, when executed by a processing unit, cause the processing unit to:
- receive, from a first queue of a plurality of queues, task metadata comprising an identifier of a task to be processed by the processing unit, wherein the processing unit is one of a plurality of processing units to process a plurality of tasks identified in the plurality of queues;
- retrieve, from a database, operational data associated with the task metadata and useable by the processing unit to perform the task corresponding to the task metadata, the database to store respective sets of operational data for the plurality of tasks identified in the plurality of queues;
- attempt to perform the task based on the operational data;
- determine whether performance of the task is completed successfully according to a completion metric;
- when performing the task is determined to be completed successfully, delete the operational data for the task from the database;
- and
- when performing the task is determined not to be completed successfully, discontinue the performance of the task and discard the task metadata and the operational data from the processing unit without removing the operational data from the database.
