A method for interacting with a voice assistant during a conference call is performed by a processor of a device that is participating in a conference call with one or more other devices. The method includes controlling the device to operate in a conference call state in which voice data received from a user is transmitted to the one or more other devices participating in the conference call; and in response to the device receiving non-verbal input from the user indicating that voice assistance is required, controlling the device to switch from operating in the conference call state to operating in a voice assistant state in which voice data received from the user is transmitted to a voice assistant and blocked from being transmitted to the one or more other devices participating in the conference call.
