Flexible paper selection for printing operations using attributes or settings having multiple values

A method for managing printing operations, the method comprising:

• receiving a print job for a printing device, wherein the print job includes a print ticket having an attribute;
• determining a job setting for the print job related to the attribute, wherein the job setting defines multiple values for the attribute;
• determining a plurality of media definitions for the print job from the attribute, wherein each media definition of the plurality of media definitions includes a value of the multiple values for the attribute defined by the job setting;
• generating a list of papers for the print job from a media catalog for the printing device based on the plurality of media definitions;
• and
• determining a paper of the list of papers to assign to the print job.

A method for managing printing operations at a printing device, the method comprising:

• receiving a print job for the printing device, wherein the print job includes a print ticket having a job type;
• associating an attribute to the print job based on the job type, wherein the attribute has multiple values;
• determining a plurality of media definitions for the print job based on the job type, wherein each media definition of the plurality of media definitions includes a value of the multiple values for the attribute;
• generating a list of papers for the print job from a media catalog for the printing device based on the plurality of media definitions;
• and
• determining a paper of the list of papers to assign to the print job.
