Abstract
A storage system determines a fractional capacity utilization for an entity based on data stored within the storage system, where the fractional capacity utilization reflects an amount of data stored that is exclusively associated with the entity. The storage system determines a total capacity utilization for the entity based on the fractional capacity utilization. The storage system generates a usage metric associated with the entity based on the total capacity utilization.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- determining, by a storage system controller of a storage system, a fractional capacity utilization for an entity based on data stored within the storage system, wherein the fractional capacity utilization is based on an amount of data stored on the storage system that is exclusively associated with the entity;
- determining a total capacity utilization for the entity based on the fractional capacity utilization;
- and
- generating a usage metric associated with the entity based on the total capacity utilization.
A storage system comprising:
- a plurality of storage devices;
- and
- a storage system controller, operatively coupled to the plurality of storage devices, configured to:
- determine a fractional capacity utilization for an entity based on data stored within the storage system, wherein the fractional capacity utilization is based on an amount of data stored on the storage system that is exclusively associated with the entity;
- determine a total capacity utilization for the entity based on the fractional capacity utilization;
- and
- generate a usage metric associated with the entity based on the total capacity utilization.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed, cause a storage system controller to:
- determine a fractional capacity utilization for an entity based on data stored within a storage system, wherein the fractional capacity utilization is based on an amount of data stored on the storage system that is exclusively associated with the entity;
- determine a total capacity utilization for the entity based on the fractional capacity utilization;
- and
- generate a usage metric associated with the entity based on the total capacity utilization.
