A manufacturing execution system manages a self-replicating robot production process. The system determines that a robot manufactured in a manufacturing facility satisfies one or more release conditions and executes a state transition that reclassifies the robot from a manufactured product to an active manufacturing asset. The active manufacturing asset is registered in a workforce registry alongside human workers and assigned manufacturing tasks based on capability data, where the tasks relate to production of subsequent robots or subassemblies thereof. The system dispatches the active manufacturing asset to perform the assigned tasks and monitors its performance. A manufacturing genealogy data store may track manufacturing history and inform capability-based task selection. The system may respond to degradation conditions by generating maintenance work orders and reassigning tasks to human workers or other active manufacturing assets in the workforce registry.
