Conveying device and image forming apparatus

A conveying device comprising:

• a conveyor to convey, at a conveyance speed, an object having a length, a width, and a thickness;
• a separator to separate, in a separation process, the object from a stack of objects, including the object, stacked to a stacking amount;
• a supplier to supply the object to the conveyor;
• a sensor to detect the object floated from the stack of objects in the separation process by the separator;
• circuitry configured to acquire information including the length, and at least one of the width, the thickness, the conveyance speed, or the stacking amount;
• and
• a communicator to:
• send the information acquired, to an external system;
• and
• receive, from the external system, at least one of a detection distance or a detection height to set the sensor to detect the object floated from the stack of objects,
• wherein the external system determines at least one of the detection distance or the detection height based on the length and at least one of the width, the thickness, the conveyance speed, and the stacking amount acquired.

An image forming apparatus comprising:

• a conveyor to convey, at a conveyance speed, an object having a length, a width, and a thickness;
• a separator to separate, in a separation process, the object from a stack of objects, including the object, stacked to a stacking amount;
• a supplier to supply the object to the conveyor;
• an image forming device that forms an image on the object supplied by the supplier;
• and
• circuitry configured to:
• acquire the length, and at least one of the width, the thickness, the conveyance speed, or the stacking amount;
• determine a detection distance from a sensor to the object floated from the stack of objects based on the length, and at least one of the width, the thickness, the conveyance speed, and the stacking amount acquired;
• and
• determine the detection distance based on the length, and at least one of the width, the thickness, the conveyance speed, and the stacking amount acquired.
