Abstract
Described techniques provide increased output uniformity in an eyebox of a reflective light guide using a reflective structure, such as a periodic reflective structure formed in one or more optical substrates of an optical combiner. The reflective structure includes a series of reflective facets having a respective reflective intensity that varies in accordance with a position of the respective facet along a path of propagation for the light guide, such as to increased reflective intensity for reflective facets positioned further from an incoupling structure of the light guide.
Claims22
A light guide, comprising:
- an incoupling structure to receive display light and to direct the display light into the light guide along a propagation path;
- and
- a reflective structure to outcouple at least a portion of the display light toward an eyebox of the light guide, the reflective structure comprising a series of reflective facets having a respective reflective intensity that varies in accordance with a position of the respective facet along the propagation path.
(canceled)
A method comprising:
- receiving display light into a light guide via an incoupling structure;
- directing the display light through the light guide along a propagation path;
- and
- outcoupling at least a portion of the display light toward an eyebox of the light guide via a reflective structure comprising a series of reflective facets, the reflective facets having a respective reflective intensity that varies in accordance with a distance between the incoupling structure and the respective facet.
(canceled)
An eyewear display device comprising:
- a light guide, comprising:
- an incoupling structure to receive display light and to direct the display light into the light guide along a propagation path;
- and
- a reflective structure to outcouple at least a portion of the display light toward an eyebox of the light guide, the reflective structure comprising a series of reflective facets having a respective reflective intensity that varies in accordance with a position of the respective facet along the propagation path.
