Abstract
A display system that is configured for integration into a vehicle comprises a light source and an optical subsystem optically coupled to the light source. The optical subsystem includes a reflector and at least one semi-reflective optic, wherein the optical subsystem is configured to direct light rays to provide a plurality of virtual images that appear to a viewer concurrently at a respective plurality of different optical depths, by causing light of each of the virtual images to travel a different distance within the optical subsystem before exiting the optical subsystem on a path toward eyes of the viewer.

A display system comprising:
- a light source;
- and
- an optical subsystem optically coupled to the light source and including a plurality of optical elements arranged to direct light rays to provide a plurality of virtual images that appear to a viewer concurrently at a respective plurality of different optical depths, by causing light of each of the virtual images to travel a different distance within the optical subsystem before exiting the optical subsystem on a path toward eyes of the viewer, the plurality of optical elements including a reflector and at least one semi-reflective optic;
- wherein the display system is configured for integration into a vehicle.
A display system comprising:
- a light source;
- an optical subsystem optically coupled to the light source and including a plurality of optical elements arranged to direct light rays to provide a plurality of virtual images that appear to a viewer concurrently at a respective plurality of different optical depths, by causing light of each of the virtual images to travel a different distance within the optical subsystem before exiting the optical subsystem on a path toward eyes of the viewer;
- an aperture optic to remove stray light;
- and
- a relay to redirect light from the optical subsystem to the aperture optic, wherein the aperture optic and the relay are portions of a single, monolithic piece of material.
A display system comprising:
- a display panel having a plurality of flat surfaces and a radius of curvature disposed between the plurality of flat surfaces, wherein the plurality of flat surfaces and the radius of curvature collectively form a continuous surface;
- and
- an optical subsystem optically coupled to the display panel and including a plurality of semi-reflective optics, wherein the optical subsystem is configured to direct light rays to provide a plurality of virtual images that appear to a viewer concurrently at a respective plurality of different optical depths, by causing light of each of the virtual images to travel a different distance within the optical subsystem before exiting the optical subsystem on a path toward eyes of the viewer.
An optic comprising:
- an aperture optic to remove stray light from light incident on the aperture optic;
- and
- a relay to redirect light incident on the relay to the aperture optic, wherein the aperture optic and the relay are portions of a single, monolithic piece of material.
